Hey Guys!

Inspired from my old post http://hydrogen.popez.org/hcms/node/1941 I finally wrote a tutorial how I use H2 for live electronic music.

Here it is!

Enjoy

Vinz

PS: on the stage it looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YAFu7hgbE0

hey thijs!

I can give you the .odt file if you like :)

I was trying with a friend of mine (dev) creating a midi action DESELECT_NEXT_PATTERN, but is seems to be more complicated than we thought (especially because he has to understand the code at all). Maybe is somebody around with more skills could do that?? Then it would be possible to play live songs with different parts and that would be great on the stage :)

all the best

what would the DESELECT_NEXT_PATTERN do ?

actually the SELECT_NEXT_PATTERN has 2 different functions:

1. in single pattern mode it selects the wanted pattern (as expected)

2 but in stacked pattern mode it toggles the wanted pattern between on and off.

So if I want to build 3 different pattern with kick drum, I want to play only one at once, so I have to desable one and enable the other. If by mistake I don't desable the firts both will be playing, what I actually never want to have (sounds crap).

The best would be to have 3 different midi actions:

SELECT_NEXT_PATTERN_(TOGGLE) : the old SELECT_NEXT_PATTERN renamed

SELECT_NEXT_PATTERN : only select a pattern if it is not selected. if already selected, nothing happens

DESELECT_NEXT_PATTERN : only deselect a pattern if it is already selected. if it is not selected, nothing happens

so it would be possible to do the following midi binding:

Button A : Select P1, Deselect P2, Deselect P3
Button B : Deselect P1, Select P2, Deselect P3
Button C : Deselect P1, Deselect P2, Select P3

what do you think?

hi Vinz

can you have a look at this ticket i just created : https://github.com/hydrogen-music/hydrogen/issues/190

since you are also using hydrogen as transport master to sync an external device, is this something you have also seen ?

btw: thanks for leading me to jack_midi_clock > really really nice utility :-)

Hi Vinz!

Sounds reasonable.. Can you create a github ticket for this request? This makes it easier to keet track of the feature request. Btw. what about a "SELECT_NEXT_PATTERN_EXCLUSIVE" which selects only that pattern and disables all others?
