problems with sound and own samples

hi all, what's up. I'm experiencing some weird problems with a song with own samples i am creating. I was using version 0.9.5 for linux (currently using ubuntu natty) and switched to 0.9.6-Beta1 but still the same.

what happens is that i press play and the song does not sound. I check the tick button for the metronome and even the metronome doesn't sound. If I press stop/play it won't sound. I have to press play/pause and then the metronome will play, and the song too.

It's just with this song that happens - and it's a song with just two instruments, every instrument lasts for 2 beats and with the sample editor y loop it one time so i just place one note in the pattern. As the pattern loops the instrument loops too so it's a continous sound.

I also use midi triggers to change patterns, and use the dirty trick described in http://hydrogen.popez.org/hcms/node/29 to avoid the missing beat in the first beat of the patterns when switching between them. It works ok, the problem now is this of the song not sounding.

cheers!!!

hi

i have the same issue with only 1 song, all other songs play as you would expect

i also have to press the play/pause (spacebar) button once before i can start/stop the song (using the midi triggers)

i'll create a ticket asap and attach the song to it

no need to log the same bug 2x

did you take a look at the screencast? is this the same type of behaviour you are seeing ?

if possible, could you try to play the song i attached to the ticket and see if you also see the same issue ?  that way we can see if it is indeed something that is specific for a certain song ?

yep, exactly the same behaviour for your song in my computer.

so, if play/stop/play/stop... the sound is never there (even the in-built metronome, that's important). The moment u press play, pause and then play, it starts sounding.

@didgewind

a small workaround for you. io instrument stick the first note on tick position 3. remove lead lag settings here. this solve your problem.

hi wolke

this negative lead-lag _is_ actually the 'dirty workaround' needed to work around the 'first beat skipped when changing pattern' bug

this workaround is described in the 'live usage' page (just search for 'dirty workaround')

however ... since the 'first beat skipped...' bug is set to fixed, it is no longer needed if you use the 0.9.6

CORRECTION : the current 0.9.6-beta1 does NOT contain this fix.  Will be available in beta2 (or if you build it from source)

correction, simple use so much negative lead-lag which will working. i noticed that the problem only happens on leadlag settings more than 2/3. so if you use less leadlag it will also work.

hi didgewind,

yes the workaround was for you.

confirmed.

it is indeed possible to tweak the lag so the note matches the first beat, but without going to far down and thus avoiding this issue  :-)

thanks for the tip Wolke !
